Technology for cutting the closure loop inside the cover to open the reserve parachute. Patented and developed specifically for Vigil (European patent number: EP1512626A2). The cutting of the spare loop is initiated by a pyrotechnic charge pushing out the rounded blade.
The high internal temperature melts the loop ensuring the loop is broken. The cutter is sealed protecting the parachute from damage. The device cuts loops in less than 2 milliseconds. It has a strong and flexible cable connection with Kevlar insulation. It has no internal connections, i.e., the same cable runs directly from the activator to the detonator.
The connection between the cable and the chisel is resistant to a bursting force equal to 50 kg. Replacement of the cutter is very easy.
